Blowin'in the wind

How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
Yes, 'n' how many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, 'n' how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, 'n' how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, 'n' how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many years can a mountain exist
Before it's washed to the sea?
Yes, 'n' how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
Yes, 'n' how many times can a man turn his head,
Pretending he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

Blowin'in the wind is a folk song write in April 1962 by Bob Dylan. This song is an archetyp of protest song and considered as an hymn.It is one of the most famous protest song. It's a song which talk about the movement of the civil rights for human being mainly the black, their civil rights and that the stop of the Vietnam war.The song was composed of three verses which contain three questions, and the answer is given in the tune:"My answer,my friend is blowin'in the wind".It's probably to make think of the horror of the war and the inequality between black and white people.

Many sentences evoke the liberty,we can see this in comparison with many words as them:
-roads line 1
-can see the sky line 20
-white dove line 2
-hear people cry line 12
-see line 22

And in the song there are also many rethorical figures which have many significations or effects, for example:
-a metaphor, line 1:"How many roads must a man walk down, before you call him a man?".It's a rethorical sentence because there are not answers. It means the length of the route and the suffering time that a man must cross before he is treated in human being.
There is another metaphor, line 2:"Yes'n how many seas must a white dove sail, before she sleep in the sand?".In this sentence there is "white dove" which is a peace symbol for the pacifists of the Vietnam.

I like this song because,it defend two causes what is good. And the lyrics are good because they shows the reality.
I hope that the protest songs influence the population.Lila
